Finding good help is a really difficult thing to do in today’s day and age. If you live in Canada or are the hiring manager for a business in this country, you are probably already aware of that. Right now, there is a surprising dearth of workers sweeping all across the provinces, which is causing some concern.

You can find some evidence of this by looking at statistics like these if you were not already aware of this trend. What does this mean for certain industries, though? Today, we will delve into the impacts that it has had on the manufacturing industry. More importantly, perhaps, I will explain what you can do to mitigate this issue for your own business.

Manufacturing in the Twenty-First Century

The first thing to know here is that this field constitutes most of the industrial sector for economies across the globe. Obviously, that includes Canada. What makes up this sector, though?

For the most part, it is going to be the conversion of raw materials into refined goods. That can include the sourcing of those commodities such as metals or other ores, as well as their distribution into retail afterwards Workers are always needed for such jobs.

The thing is, though, there are other reasons that companies involved in this industry need to recruit as well. Managers, customer service coordinators, accountants, and more – all of them are also required to make for a successful business venture. They seem to be the most difficult to source, though.

All of those jobs fall into what would require a “skilled” worker. Of course, that term can take on a variety of meanings. For our purposes today, we will classify a skilled worker as someone who has a necessary skill or prerequisite to enter the position that they are applying for. That could be prior experience, a degree, or something else entirely.

Finding them is where it gets tricky. Thus, a lot of companies are looking to find a manufacturing recruiter to assist them in locating the skilled workers that they desire. The efficacy will vary, of course, depending on the parameters that you establish for the said recruiter. More on that in the next section.

How to Properly Utilize Recruitment Services

While plenty of resources out there online will tell you to use these services, not many of them actually offer some advice on how best to do so. You see, it will all come down to those aforementioned parameters that you will want to establish. Make it very clear what sorts of employees that you are looking for.

Otherwise, the organization will not be able to effectively seek out potential applicants for you. I find that transparency seems to be the best policy here, although you will naturally need to keep in mind some of the laws surrounding discrimination and the works. Sometimes there is a fine line between being specific and being discriminatory, so keep that in mind.

All of that being said, though, what are some of the qualities that you may want to look for? In general, though, just think about what makes a person pleasant to work alongside. That tends to be a good bet on how to hire someone as well.

Personability is of course one of the key traits that I look for. I do not want someone who I cannot communicate with, and I am sure that most people feel that way. They do not need to be the most outgoing, bubbly person in the world, but having some positive interactions are still a must.

As you can tell from this article, while there are a lot of challenges that you may face along the way, using recruitment services can go a long way in helping you to solve your labor shortage issue (at least on a case-by-case basis). As long as you specify what you are seeking out from your employees and are willing to work with the recruiter there, you should be able to find someone with exactly what you are looking for.
